Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ page). Below, we have tried to answer the most common questions we get. If you find that your question is not answered on this page, please email us dcatt@molddiagnostics.net or call us at 317-996-4414.
Q. What is your turn-around time for air tests?
A. It takes 3-5 days for colonies to become visible on the media for us to provide an accurate count. For tape or swab or total spore count on slides, the turn-around time is 1-2 days, depending on our sample load.
Q. Why does it cost more to identify the species?
A. Identification at the species level typically requires additional growth time for the culture, as well as additional time for the microbiologist at the microscope.
Q. What do I do if I have mold contamination in my home?
A. Each situatioin needs to be evaluated separately. Of course, the source of the water contamination needs to be discovered and repaired. Often, simple cleaning will be recommended, but sometimes structural repairs will be required. You can contact your own building contractor or remediation company and we will provide them with our analysis of your situation. Alternatively, we have a list of remediators which come highly recommended. The air in your home can be monitored throughout the repair process should you desire. The air should be monitored after remediation to compare the quality before and after.
Q. If I don’t have visible mold then I don’t have a serious problem, right?
A. Visible mold only means that there was water present at that site to allow mold to grow. A greater concern is that water, and therefore mold, can get into places you cannot see. The presence of high levels of mold spores in the air can indicate hidden mold contamination.
